Jonesboro Community Development Department

Our department's responsibilities include:

  • Conducting zoning verifications and certifications for properties within the City limits.
  • Assisting with business license compliance.
  • Reviewing building permits and coordinating further review with all relevant agencies.
  • Reviewing sign permits for compliance with the City Sign Code.
  • Reviewing tree removal permits for compliance with the City Tree Protection Ordinance.
  • Preparing staff reports for the Design Review Commission and the Historic Preservation Commission for relevant design projects within the City.
    • Preparing staff reports for the Mayor and City Council relative to rezoning (map amendment), zoning appeal, conditional use, variance, and annexation cases within the City.
    • Preparing staff reports for the Mayor and City Council for necessary text amendments and additions to the City Code.
    • Making necessary changes to the City's Zoning Table of Uses. 
    • Maintaining and updating the City Zoning Map.
    • Maintaining and updating the City Comprehensive Plan.
    • Maintaining and updating the City's short-range Planning Initiatives. 
    • Assisting the City Manager with economic development.

The City of Jonesboro is currently undertaking an update to its Comprehensive Plan and Future Land Use Map, to be complete in the fall of 2021. The Comprehensive Plan outlines a framework for the development of the City, recognizing the physical, economic, social, political, aesthetic, and related factors of a community.

Use of the City Zoning Map by citizens is for general reference only. Official zoning verifications for permitting, licensing, and other City services shall only be rendered by the Community Development Director / Zoning Administrator.
